2 February, 2018: Local businesses are the winners of the OBI competition
Today, 2nd February, The Regional Secretary of Community Tourism has presented the ten winners of the OBI business plan competition.
The Business Incubator programme in Oé-Cusse, under the Secretariat of Tourism, Industry and Commerce, is an initiative that aims to support the development of innovative businesses in the region.
On 11-12 December 2017, the incubator programme held a business plan competition in Oé-Cusse which brought together twenty-four production groups (103 entrepreneurs – 65F / 42M). Among the businesses represented are tais products, palm sugar, handicraft, pottery, coconut oil, tofu, dry meat, tailor shop, carpentry (coffin), and tour guide services. All groups presented their business idea to an evaluation panel. Out of 24 groups, ten groups were selected, based on pre-set criteria. The selected groups will receive raw material, equipment and technical training to improve the quality and design of their products and scale up their production.
This 2nd February, the ten selected entrepreneur groups have received a certificate from the President of the Authority in recognition of the quality of their business ideas. In addition, the three entrepreneur groups that have obtained the highest score at the competition will present their idea to the audience. These are Dendeng Sapi (dry meat), Amsila 1 (palm leave handicraft) and Bintang Lifau (handicraft made of sea stones).
Following this event, the OBI team will initiate the coaching and monitoring of the selected groups to ensure they are provided with the tools and knowledge to grow their businesses. The awarded equipment and raw material will then be distributed, and the technical training sessions will be provided.
