Oé-Cusse and Nusa Tenggara Timur strengthen social, cultural and economic relations


The Special Administrative Region of Oé-Cusse Ambeno (RAEOA) and Special Zone of Social Market Economy (ZEESM-TL), received this Monday, December 10, the Courtesy Visit of a Delegation of Nusa Tenggara Timur (NTT) headed by the Governor of the Province of the Republic of Indonesia, His Excellency Viktor Laiskodat. With more than 320 participants, including five regional administrators, the regional military commander and several cultural leaders, this is the largest Indonesian delegation ever to visit East Timor.

The delegation was received by the Regional Secretaries Arsénio Bano, Leónia Monteiro, Pedro Xavier, Francisco Marques, Régio Salu and Inácia Teixeira, at the border of Sakato, from where they headed to the Oé-Cusse Power Station, an infrastructure with state-of-the-art technology and ready to export about 15 of the 17.5 MW of energy produced, in what is one of the sectors of possible strategic cooperation between the two regions.

The «Clínica do Coração» (Heart Clinic) was the next stop. A visit to the facilities served to make known the equipment and the team of professionals that will soon make Oé-Cusse the privileged destination of the whole subregion to treat cardiac health problems.

The Lifau monument and the Noefefan Bridge were also part of the morning program, which had its high point with the visit to the Oé-Cusse International Airport «Rota do Sândalo» (Sandalwood Route), guided by the President of the Authority, His Excellency Dr. Mari Bim Amude Alkatiri, who stressed that the new infrastructure is another gateway for open communication between Oé-Cusse and Kupang, and between East Timor and the International Community.

The program of this courtesy visit, aimed at “strengthening cultural relations and increasing trade, expanding the areas of cooperation between Oé-Cusse and neighboring provinces”, included a cultural receptionon the seafront of Pante-Macassar, where the official speeches of the day took place.

The Governor of the Province of NTT thanked the hospitality and reiterated the desire to strengthen social, cultural and economic ties between the two regions, maximizing the potential of each territory and stimulating reciprocal growth. The President of the Autority of  REAOA-ZEESM, in turn, highlighted the vision behind RAEOA – ZEESM-TL, based on a sustained development of the social economy and the valorization of local resources and culture, favoring cooperation and inclusion for consolidation of a project placed at the service of Timor-Leste,

The visit ended with a working meeting at the headquarters of RAEOA – ZEESM-TL, where it was decided to create a Joint Technical Commission to efficiently explore these areas of cooperation.
