Training in Aen Mat Center for Rice Farmers
Last 24th and 25th of October, a training for rice producers took place in the Aet Mat Agriculture Centre in Oé-Cusse. This new centre has been on the works for months and provides equipment to support the agriculturists’ work. The Regional Goverment has installed in Aen Mat a rice milling machine that facilitates the milling process of one of the main value chains in Oé-Cusse. The training focused on instructing agriculture officers how to efficiently use the machine.
This aims to improve market access for the local rice farmers easing the workload for rice production by shifting manual labour to mechanized labour. This machine can process up to 1 TN of rice per hour, making it incredibly effective and reducing labour costs for farmers. As stated by Patricia Porras, Agribusiness coordinator, “this machine will help begin a more industrialized agriculture in Oé-Cusse. It represents technology, progress and development for the region and for Timor Leste”.
The rice milling machine has been transported from China with the support and supervision of the Agribusiness Development Program. The preparation of the Aen Mat centre and its rice milling machine begun last August 2019 and has been possible thanks to the support of RAEOA ZEESM and UNDP.
